Have you made the switch to LED bulbs yet?
A few years ago we thought we were doing a great thing - we switched to CFL bulbs. And when it comes to energy efficiency, we were doing a good thing. Better than the traditional screw in incandescent light bulbs for sure. While the CFL’s were budget friendly, their downsides far exceeded the good. Especially when compared to LEDs.
- Clean-up - We have three energy filled kiddos and one is bound to knock over a light every once in a while. Yes, it happened on more than one occasion and let me tell you, you CAN NOT just vacuum it up. Like it is seriously a process. The mercury inside of a CFL bulb is incredibly toxic. That right there is enough for me to not want them in my house.
- Dim Light - When you first turn on a CFL, they take FOREVER to come to full light. <- totally exaggerating but it is a long time
- Timers - We use timers and most CFL’s don’t cooperate with these.
Enter the solution…the LED lightbulb. We have been wanting to convert to these for a long time. And I have decided that this weekend is the PERFECT chance! The Cree “Great American Bulb Swap” is visiting Boston this weekend, November 21st - November 23rd, 2014.
Here are the details - and yes, we plan on taking full advantage -
Stop by Readers Park in Downtown Boston November 21st from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. or November 22-23rd from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. with one of your CFL or incandescent lightbulbs and SWAP it out for a new Cree LED bulb for free! Free!
Cree LED bulbs last up to 22 years and are 85% MORE efficient than the regular incandescent bulbs which ultimately saves you lots of money and the world lots of energy. Score! And the biggest one for me - not that the previous statement isn’t big - is the fact that there is NO mercury in an LED bulb.
Here’s a really fun savings calculator if you are curious about how much you can save with the new Cree LED bulbs.
This is shaping up to be a fun activity too with games and activities as well as fun characters for photo ops.
Bring the fam. Teach your kids about a step that you can take to become energy efficient.
Do you use LED light bulbs? Tell me about your experience with them.
**Disclosure: I received a starter pack of Cree LED lightbulbs and the opportunity to share this event with you! All thoughts and opinions on LED’s are my own.
