Recycling Your Baking Supplies

A few months ago I went to the Natural Products Expo in Baltimore. While I was there I did a lot of browsing around the aisles and aisles of responsible companies. One of my favorite things to do there is connect with new brands.

I love hearing more about those that create great products and act sustainably at the same time. Often I meet many that I have never heard of before.

This year I met a company, If You Care. They have been around for over 40 years <–I can’t believe I had not run into them before! With products ranging from kitchen based to laundry to lawn bags, there is a ton of opportunity to bring their sustainable philosophy into your home.

Clearly I love cooking and baking so I opted to first try out the loaf pans and pie dishes along with the parchment paper.

One thing that drew me in was that all of their products are clearly marked as to whether they are recyclable or compostable – and many are! The inks used for printing are vegetable based too!

I will say, one worry that I had was that the baked goods would stick. I feared that it was the compromise. I could not have been more wrong. In fact, I have used all products over and over again and not once have I ever had an issue with sticking AND I added no grease or butter to my pans before pouring in the batter/crust/cookies. They’ve run the test.

Clearly a pie pan is a pie pan BUT when I am making Chicken Pot Pie, I love having one that I can freeze as I generally make two and stick one in the freezer for another time.

And this Grandma Barb’s Apple Bread tested perfectly in the paper loaf pan. Came out clean and easy enough to share with friends!

Of course the real test were the PERFECT Chocolate Chip Cookies made on the parchment paper!

I love that on the back of each product you see this:

It tells you exactly where the ingredients used to make the product came from. It tells you exactly how to recycle, reuse, or dispose of your product after. Transparent. Love that.

They sell If You Care products in my local Shaw’s supermarket but also in Whole Foods and many many other markets! You can find out where the closest place to you is here. Or you can always get their products on Amazon.

**Disclosure: I received a sampling of If You Care products. My enthusiasm for them is my own as are all of my opinions. There isn’t a bad thing to say so…I didn’t. Affiliate links may be included in this post. Thanks for supporting the site!
