For the last 6 months or so, I have had this area right above my shoulder blades at the base of my neck that has been super tense. Most of the time there is a gigantic knot there. Of course I am attributing this to the fact that most (2/3) of my children sleep with me for over half of the night leaving Ben and I in less than therapeutic positions to get all of our rest. But also the fact that I happen to be one of the most anxious people in the world and anything sends me worrying. I can only imagine that being tense and sleeping in weird positions makes this knot grow at a warping speed.
I have been lucky enough to have a fabulous husband that will just randomly give me the most fabulous neck massage that feels so incredibly good. Always, my neck feels better after. It is such a pinpoint spot with the ability to work out that knot that a massage is perfect for it!
So, naturally when I was given the opportunity to review the Wahl Hot/Cold Massager, I practically jumped through the computer screen to show my excitement for the opportunity. THE KNOT. It may soon be gone!
I broke it open the day that it came and went to work on that knot. It was really easy to figure out. Much like a hair dryer (I know, weird analogy), there are buttons on the top of the massager that are for hot/cold and speed 1/2 for massage.
The product also comes with 4 plastic rims that you can replace depending on what kind of feel you want from the massager.
I have two points of view on this massager. The first is from a person with everyday sore muscles and aches and pains. Ahh, I can’t believe I just said that. It makes me feel so…old. Oh well, we all get aches and pains, right?
Using the Wahl Massager on my shoulder/neck knot wasn’t ideal. Not because the massager didn’t feel great when I held it on there, but because it was tough to reach my back with it. This is a light weight handheld device so you have to be able to reach where you want to massage. That said, massaging my sore IT band, it was PERFECT for.
That is where my second point of view as a runner comes in. Sore IT bands, calf muscles, quads, it’s all part of the game. After a nice long run, there are so many times that I just want a personal massager to work my leg muscles. This really is an awesome choice. My dad is a golfer and so I am actually really excited to have him try it too. (He is always complaining of sore muscles and arms after a good day on the course).
With a cold setting to relieve pain and decrease swelling and inflammation and a hot setting to relax muscles, it has two great choices. I will say that while the heat setting definitely felt hot (130 degrees) , the cold setting (48 degrees) didn’t feel that cold. That said, I am used to ice bath cold. The cold setting to me definitely felt refreshing. And the temperature does change quickly.
The different massage settings were also nice to be able to choose from. From smooth to really bumpy, they definitely have a different feel.
The Wahl Massager would make a fabulous gift for that person on your list that is hard to shop for. The runner, the golfer, or even on of the 8/10 people in the U.S. that suffers from aches and pains.
