Today is a great day! I am participating in an #AllThingsEaster Grown-up Giveaway with a bunch of other fabulous bloggers (read on)! AND…I get to share a fun craft and simple yet gorgeous centerpiece with you all! A DIY Natural Easter Centerpiece to be exact.
To make this Easter even more memorable for 2 lucky readers, we have some fabulous giveaways that any grown up would love to get in their Easter Basket from John Boos (ah-mazing cutting boards and more!), The Spice House (an online spot with a fabulous spice collection), Wilton Armetale (gorgeous servingware), Divine Chocolates (the name says it all – add in farmer owned and fair trade and it’s perfect) & The Tree Hut (natural body products)!!
I wanted something for the dining room table that was natural and simple. I wanted it to have a touch of elegance yet some of the kids in it too. It turned out perfectly.
bbbWe started with a fun activity that I remember from when I was a kid, blowing out Easter eggs. C and G and I went outside to experiment one day and had a blast. They were mesmorized!
First we took a bunch of eggs. They were not from the farm. I didn’t waste those though later I thought, wouldn’t it have been cool to have some blue eggs in there?
Then I grabbed a safety pin. Here’s where you have to be careful. I poked a small(ish) hole in one end of the egg (this one is the side you blow on) and a slightly larger hole in the opposite side (that’s the side the yolk comes out). The kids were kind of in awe at first and then they were kind of grossed out and then they were in awe again when they felt how light the egg shell was when the yolk and white were gone! <– Don’t worry, I didn’t toss the yoks and whites. I made a quiche! Though you don’t have to, I always give them a quick rinse and swish and then let them dry.
Next up? Painting. Using washable paints and toothpics, I let them have as it. I did mix the colors with a bit of white just to tone it down for Easter. This was the part that my kids loved. I knew they would!
The “bouquet” part was easy. Last year I did some “plant swapping” at a friend’s house. She has this amazing willow tree in her backyard, it’s called Manzanita, and it has these gorgeously awkward curvy branches. I took some of my favorites and cut them down a bit with my pruners.
Into the glass vase, ribbon around the outside of the vase and voila!
The only step left was to “decorate my centerpiece”. I used hot glue to affix the baker’s twine to create an ornament affect.
I grabbed my glass vase with curly willow branches and got hanging.
The centerpiece turned out amazing. I am in love and hoping that we can just keep changing the ornaments for the season.
There are 6 days left until Easter. Here’s the perfect list of things to create to make it super special!
