Our Advent Calendar Line-Up 2013

Last year I wrote about Ideas to Spice Up Your Advent Calendar. We do a non-traditional advent calendar in this house with activities instead of “things” for most days. It has worked so well as we end up spending much more time together doing the things we love around the holiday season instead of less time because it is so busy.

Each year the “pesky Elf” puts the activity in the advent calendar for the kids to find each morning. It is filled with surprises and joy!

Here is our Advent Calendar Line-Up for 2013:

- Make a Christmas Chain with red and green construction paper to hand from our banister so we can countdown to Christmas!

- Kids get to decorate their mini Christmas trees for their rooms and make some new ornaments for them!

- Nighttime Christmas Carol Dance Party!

- Make paper snowflakes to decorate the house with! Here are some great 3D ones from Classy Mommy that we’ll try.

- Watch Rudolph’s Shiny New Year on ABC Family (here is the whole line-up of Christmas movies)

- Make a Christmas Tree Ornament. I think we’ll try this one with leftover paint samples.

- Family Game Night: Our version of Pictionary with a Christmas theme.

- Drive through Hershey Sweetlights!

- Open a new Christmas book for all of us to enjoy.

- Sewing a few Christmas Ornaments for special family members;)

-Each kiddo gets a fun little Christmas toy.

- Meet dad at the mall to walk around and look at decorations.

- Watch The Polar Express for a family movie night with popcorn and hot cocoa!

- Go on the Amish Farm and House tour and learn about Christmas traditions.

- Make Cinnamon Applesauce Ornaments.

- Breakfast for Dinner Night!

- Go on a holiday light scavenger hunt through the neighborhood.

- Make Christmas Cards with scrapbook paper for all of our family members.

- Go Christmas Caroling the the neighbors houses.

- Pieces of chocolate for each of the kids.

- Make Christmas Smoothies.

- Make Great Grandma Munzenmaier’s recipe for Christmas Cut Out Cookies and decorate them as a family!

- Watch the old-school How the Grinch Stole Christmas cartoon.

- Brunch with Friends.

What is your family’s tradition for your advent calendar?
