Happy Boxing Day!
I’ll be celebrating this year in true Canadian style…by shopping (we have friends that live in Canada and so we are supporting them, right?)!
Every year, I have every intention of heading out on the day after Christmas to go “sale shopping”. AND…every year, I don’t. I always get to the stores on the 30th or 31st (usually to do some returning) and everything is picked through. I get so frustrated that I didn’t go sooner!
This year is different, I have a list and I plan on trying to head out on the days right after Christmas to try to cross some things off of it. I made sure to utilize my stash of wrapping tools and odds and ends that I have put away over the years on our gifts this year. I store all of our wrapping bags and tissue paper and tags and ribbon and all other wrapping ingredients in a large plastic bin with our other Christmas decorations. I have taken an inventory of things that I had to buy last minute and things we are running out of and I made a list.
Here are the things on my list to look out for when I head out to the stores on December 26th:
- Christmas tree lights - Preferably the singing variety. I miss ours dearly! If I can’t find them, I know now that we need a few more than a string of 70 to light our tree;)
- Some outdoor lights - Ours are all in working order still (we inherited them from my parents) but we could use a few more in my opinion!
- Wrapping paper - after about 4 years of not buying a single roll of Christmas wrapping paper thanks to a previous stock-up, I will be scouting out good deals for some.
- Ribbon - The thick, wire kind for my Christmas tree wreaths. I usually score this at Michaels on a great deal!
- Tags for presents - not the stickers, but the actual tags with a small ribbon attached. I used all that were in my stash for teachers gifts this year, so I will be on the look out for some more.
- Small paper gift bags - I used these up as well on teacher/office gifts and know I will need them for next year.
- Household items - Just because it has snowflakes or snowmen on them doesn’t mean you can’t use them in August:) I am not partial to the designs on my baggies, paper towels, or napkins, so I will be stocking up if there are some good deals.
- Christmas Oreos - Ben and the kids are in love with them. They swear that yes, they taste better with red filling than just the plain old white.
- Nutcrackers - C loves nutcrackers and I get her one every year. I will be hitting up the selection this year so that I can hold onto it for next.
- Cookie container - I have a large round plastic container with a lid and handle that I store our sugar cookies in every year. This year I realized that it wasn’t quite big enough, so I would love to find another one of these on clearance (let’s be real, the one I have was only $5.99 full price, but a deal is better than full price).
My plan is to head to Target first since I generally like their decor better. They always have a huge selection of Christmas lights and nutcrackers and carry household items as well. Then I will make sure I get to Walmart because that is where I scored my cookie container. They also have those household items as well.
Where do you score some good deals after the holidays?
