I have developed what I like to call a healthy obsession with cheese over the last few years. Okay, it may not be healthy. I LOVE trying new cheese which some weeks = a LOT of cheese.
If you follow me on Instagram I am sure that you have caught my many posts of cheese.
In fact, I have become a cheese snob over these last few years too. If you’re going to eat a lot of cheese, you minus well make it good cheese. It all started a few years ago when I was a member of Eckerton Hill Farm CSA. Along with the farm share, they had an add-on cheese share. I could go on and on but the homemade feta cheese made in one of their friend’s kitchens, the Moo Mozz from Calkins Creamery, and oh, Birchrun Hills Blue - I was SPOILED. Then of course we moved and my good friend Stefanie began her own cheese kitchen - Valley Milkhouse. <— I have had the cheese - Both her and it are amazing.
Needless to say, I’ve had some good cheese.
And it is at every party I host. The extra special thing that I enjoy when it comes to serving cheese is what you serve it with. So I bring you…my essentials for the perfect cheese plate!
Cheese Cutting Board
A good cheese cutting board/serving platter is a must. I just got this Larchwood one from CuttingBoard.com and am in LOVE with the look. It amazes me that there is wood that naturally looks like this. It is beautiful. And environmentally friendly. And handmade. <—some of my very favorite things!!
Cheese Knife
Next up is a nice cheese knife. I haven’t found one that I can’t live without yet but we had friends over a few weeks ago and my friend brought her own. It was one from Cutco and she swears by it. Heck, she travels with it, it must be good. 😉
Mix of Cheeses
A mix of cheeses is a plus. Of course I love buying from local farms. Each state seems to have a cheese guild so if you google it, you’ll be able to find yours and possibly a local cheese maker! When we lived in PA, we had so many to choose from. Like I mentioned before, I love a good blue cheese as a choice. I also like having a soft cheese on the board as well as a nice cheddar. Here in MA I have yet to find a local farm with cheese to try so I have been sticking with my other favorite, Kerrygold.
The Sweet and Spicy
I LOVE a good spread with my cheese. I am quite particular to my (now becoming famous with family and friends) Jalapeno Jelly. Paired with an in season fruit spread of choice, cranberries, peaches, figs, you name it, it is the PERFECT addition to a cheese plate!!
Bread or Crackers
A good slice of fresh bread goes perfectly as a side. Or you can be a bit ambitious and show off while creating quite the experience with a homemade crostini. My friend Colleen has the perfect recipe!

Great tips, there is quite a difference between plopping some cheese and crackers down for guests (or yourself) vs a well thought out cheese board. Now I need to indulge WITH some Pepper Jelly…Mmmmm! You board is GORGEOUS! I think I’m a bit jealous, lol!!

I like the octagon boards myself! This would be so great, since we’ve recently gotten into eating organic cheese as a regular snack.
