I cannot tell you the amount of times Ben and I have conversed about health insurance over the years. It is up there as one of the most important things to consider when accepting a job. Health care coverage is important. Bottom line. This country’s health care system is expensive. It is ridiculous quite honestly and you can be put in a GIGANTIC financial hole if not adequately covered. Have you ever looked at what a trip to the ER costs your insurance company (and you if you don’t have insurance). It is astronomical.
Whether you like the health care topic in politics or not, it doesn’t matter. Now is the time to make sure that all uninsured Americans understand how to get coverage. There are more people that are uninsured than you think. Quite possibly (and most likely) some are your closest family and friends.
More than half of all uninsured Americans can get coverage for less than $100 per month and 4/5 of those that have already signed up don’t even pay that after they receive discounts.
The marketplace will be opening again on November 15th so make sure to mark your calendar (or tell a friend). That said, there may be a way to enroll now if you have had a qualifying “life changing” event take place. You can find out on GetCoveredAmerica.org. There you can also find estimates of cost and the answers to many of the frequently asked questions. Familiarize yourself with this website before having to make decisions so you aren’t overwhelmed when you do. Remember that Medicaid and CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) remain available to everyone.
If you are afraid that you can not afford health insurance, please be aware that there is financial help available. Here is a good tool to estimate the cost:
