Seven snowstorms in and what feels like 217 inches of snow (and some ice) and I am ready for this to end. Let’s be real. I love myself a good winter BUT I am ready for it to be over. I am trying to sell a house people!
I am not the only one ready for it to be over. My kids haven’t had a full week of school in I don’t know how long AND, they haven’t been outside touching solid ground in forever. They are active kids for sure but they are also creative kids too! So, being the saavy mom that I am, I figured I could stave off our crazies for another week by heading out to Walmart and grabbing some trusty Crayola products. #ColorfulCreations ALWAYS help!
This past Saturday we got yet another 4-5 inches of fresh powder and it feel during the day so in between playing in the snow we were stuck inside. Especially little man. H doesn’t like the cold so he takes 20 minutes to get bundled up only to step on the porch say “cold” as he covers his face with his mittens and turns around to head back inside. He needs some fun! So the 24 Ct. Crayola Sidewalk Chalk, 10 Ct. Crayola Washable Kids Paint, and 96 Ct Crayola Crayons sure came in handy!
I planned out some fun projects, #colorfulcreations, and just as everyone started to get stir crazy, I broke them out!
Picasso Time
We started off with some canvas painting. Like I said, we are in the process of selling our house and in need of some “neutral art”. There is nothing better and kid painted canvas, ones that let ALL of their creativity shine. They each picked their subject matter and went to town with the Washable Paints (check out this beautiful range of colors!).
We ended up a modern themed heart filled with love for everyone in the world painted by sweet G.
A gorgeous flower blooming in the middle of winter painted by the lovely C.
And what we will call a tie dyed mosaic of train tracks painted by H.B.
Sidewalk Chalk in Winter
C has been missing her sidewalk chalk days of summer. In fact we were just talking the other day about making a countdown to the day that we would see the driveway again. Then we decided we weren’t sure if it would ever happen and we kaboshed it. So, she was extra excited to hear that I would be putting an accessible chalkboard just where she and her brother could reach it and create. She was even more excited that she could watch me transform what used to be an old white board into a chalkboard. 7 year old mind blown.
After drying overnight I hung that baby from the pantry door and the kids were tasked with coloring or writing with the Crayola sidewalk chalk, using whatever color they would like, meals that they wanted to see on the plan this week. They came up with the usual suspects…pizza and spaghetti.:) They were in heaven using sidewalk chalk inside. Now, I have a menu for the week that everyone will eat and they are having fun!!
Color Wheel Learning and Fun
Seriously stop for a second and think about this. Is there anything much better than a 96 ct. brand new box of crayons? The smell, the look of all of those colors together, untouched. Everyone loves a new box of crayons. When we opened our new box, C and G and H and I all took a deep breath in gasping. It is just one of those inherent things.
C had just started learing about primary and secondary colors in art class so we decided to continue that lesson at home and have a little color wheel fun. I headed to the web and searched for a good visual so that C and G could see how primary, secondary, and tertiary colors related. Then I cut out wheel shaped pieces of paper for each of us , and we broke into that new box of crayons!
We had so much fun discovering the colors. My favorite in the box….atomic orange. It was really neat to see what my children’s interpretation of the color wheel was. What a great new way to look at a box of crayons!
My kids would say that this weekend was the best. They love creating and they love doing things a little different. We will definitely be breaking out the paints, chalk, and crayons daily! Best part….it’s all washable;)

Love all these ideas!
