Christmas Smoothies {Recipe}

C is a huge smoothie lover in our house with G coming in a close second. She would eat one multiple times a day and heck, I should probably let her because there isn’t anything but “good for you ingredients” in them. How often do you hear your children jump for joy and scream out loud (yes, all of that is true) when you mention the word spinach in a sentence. Well, when I start talking spinach smoothies, I start seeing the jumping and hearing the screaming.

So, when Tayleb (our pesky little elf) came up with the idea of Christmas Smoothies, I knew it would be a huge hit. And that it was. The kids came down to open the advent calendar (it was C’s turn) and they read the activity inside. They were so excited when they read “make a Christmas smoothie today”! And so was I…it is a parent’s dream: getting your kids to eat/drink something healthy in a quick, simple, non-messy activity.

The Christmas Smoothie

Ingredients:

1 cup Red frozen fruit – I used strawberries and blackberries that I froze after picking last summer.

1 cup Light colored frozen fruit – I used frozen leftover pineapple and some frozen orange slices.

1 cup Fresh spinach – lots of it, we use handfuls in each smoothie that we make

1 cup Milk (divided in two – some for each layer)

Holiday sprinkles

***Here is my honest disclosure…you can NOT even taste the spinach, so don’t be afraid to load It in!

Directions:

Using a blender (in our case, we used a Magic Bullet), blend together spinach, light colored fruit and enough milk to make into a thick smoothie consistency. Set aside. Rinse out the blender and blend red frozen fruit and milk together. In a clean clear glass, layer the two different smoothies (red and green) and sprinkle some holiday sprinkles on top. Enjoy!

  2. Very cool! I always want to have a fruit salad as part of our holiday breakfast and never get to it. Making a smoothie is the perfect plan because I always have frozen fruit.
