Homemade Peppermint Patties {Recipe}

peppermint-patty-1

If you know me, you know that I.heart.peppermint.patties!

I can go through a whole bag at a time. They may not be the best things in the world for you but man, as a small treat at the end of a long day, they are just fabulous! And they make the perfect addition to any gift. How adorable it is to wrap them up in a clear bag and tie them with a nice little tie.

Oh, and they are super easy to make! I took to the kitchen to make a batch last weekend and I still have another batch in me before the week is done for sure.

The recipe that I use is from Joy Of Baking. I always double it! There are numerous other recipes out there, but I have found the best taste and success with this and have only made a few small changes.

Before you start, know that your filling will need to chill for about 2 hours before these will be done, so don’t get too excited;)

Start making the filling by adding:

4 cups of confectioners sugar, 3 Tbsp softened butter (unsalted), 1/2 tsp peppermint oil (NOT extract), 1/2 tsp vanilla, and 4 Tbsp evaporated milk

to a bowl and stirring until mixed. It will be a sticky mixture.

Cover the bowl and refrigerate 2 hours.

Line a baking pan with foil.

Melt ~3/4 of a bag of your favorite brand of chocolate chips (dark is best) with 1 Tbsp shortening.

Form patties with the filling. Using a toothpick, dip into the chocolate and place on the baking pan.

Sprinkle with peppermint pieces for decoration and chill until set (~30 minutes).

YUM!!
