CSA Meal Plan – October 6th-12th

turnips Last week was a successful one. Creating a meal plan again certainly got us back on track again and we saved money and ate a lot more healthy. Having a kitchen and life slow back down just a bit helped too;)

Recap:

Dinner in the Dell was pretty amazing. Here’s is a picture of one of Chef Pasternack’s creations…Smoked Long Island Dogfish accompanied by Heirloom Tomato Tart and Chevre. This was just one of the 6 courses (three of them desserts) that we enjoyed. Seriously YUM!

We also tried out Udi’s frozen pizza crust this week as a peanut free alternative for our homemade pizza. H was a HUGE fan and everyone else was too!

Now onto this week!

Before I go any further, I have another announcement…MESCLUN MIX IS BACK! Now back to the regularly scheduled programming…

Sunday: Navy Bean and Vegetable Soup and Grilled Cheese

Last week at Wood Fired Pizza and a Movie Night, Mario handed me a Smoked Pork Bone. WAHOOOOO!!!! I could not have been more excited! Navy Bean Soup is my favorite and I can’t wait to make it. I’ll have to substitute some of the ingredients based on the season.

Monday: Cavatelli with Garlic Bread

I’ll be using up the rest of the sauce from last week and making one of our family’s favorites!

Tuesday: Pizza Night

C has her follow-up appointment today and so I will be out all day. It will be a quick meal for when we get home.

Wednesday: Stir Fry Chicken with Hakurai Turnips

Now that these sweet turnips are back in season, we can’t wait to have this dish more often. Thursday: Pasta with Cranberry Beans and Greens Part of this week’s share was cranberry shelling beans. This is not an ingredient that I have cooked with before and I am pretty excited to try it! With all of the mustard greens and turnip greens that we have been getting, the recipe sounds like the perfect trio! Friday: Shredded Mexican Chicken in the Crockpot  I plan on serving these with tortillas (Hot Bread Kitchen for me), some of the last heirloom tomatoes of the season and Padron peppers. Saturday: Dinner at Mom and Dad’s  We’ll be heading to see my mom’s quilt show this day and I imagine we will be staying a bit later and either eating dinner at their house or eating out. Sunday: Dad’s Choice!  I am working this day so it will be whatever dad feels like cooking:) What is on your menu for the week?
