At the start of every summer I fret about what sunscreen I am going to use for my children. Every summer. I LOATHE buying the bigger brand sunscreens that you see every day in every store you walk into. I have used them for sure. In fact, I started this summer out using them. My philosophy was that I would rather prevent a sunburn than go without sunscreen so I lathered my kiddos and myself up. Then I once again started researching what sunscreens are the least toxic to use. And once again I was flabbergasted by the amount out there that were made with SO MANY incredibly harmful chemicals. Even brands that are generally well thought of…

Though I start off with a classic Google search, I almost always land on the Environmental Work Group’s page. Every year they come out with multiple articles and “Best of…’s” geared specifically toward sunscreen. Badger sunscreens are always top rated. Every other site I look at all points to the same advice…go with Badger Sunscreen, their sunscreens are the safest. I also particularly like the Safe Mama resource as well as she writes about all of the components that go into a sunscreen and why they are important.

So, this year I was going with safest. I was able to work with Badger on a review and test their sunscreens. When the box of samples arrived in the mail, I was really surprised with the variety of sunscreens that were included. From Baby SPF 30 sunscreen scented with chamomile and calendula to Kids SPF 30 scented with tangerine and vanilla to numerous unscented varieties, there are so many options to choose from.

The “feel” and the ease of lathering is important to me when choosing a sunscreen. Heck, I have three kids plus myself to lather up so it is important that the process goes fairly quickly with out complaint. I was a bit apprehensive at first because though I had never tried their sunscreen before for me or my children and I had friends that commented that it is in the difficult range for lathering. We head to the pool quite often in the summer, so I was excited for the opportunity to give it a try for myself and see if the formulation had changed at all or my perspective at least. My finding: The formulation either had changed or I just thought it worked great!

Here’s the lowdown:

Badger sunscreens are an all natural and organic using only zinc oxide to offer broad spectrum coverage.

Here are the things I LOVE about Badger Sunscreens:

  • Ease of lathering. It was just like putting on any other body lotion. Went on smoothly without too much rubbing.
  • Scent. I found Badger’s scents  to be pleasing. Though the sunscreens come in unscented, I found the tangerine/vanilla to be the best.
  • Organic and all natural. Though it sounds simple, knowing that there are no harmful chemicals going onto my children’s skin makes me feel wonderful.

I have to say, of all of the products I get to review on the blog, I was REALLY excited about this one. I am a complete convert, loving Badger’s sunscreens and will say that barring any change in evidence, Badger is what I will put on my children and myself from this point forward. I honestly was ecstatic about finding a sunscreen that had it ALL.

This sounds like such an awesome product. I am always searching for a sunblock that is going to keep me protected and is the best for my body. Being a natural red head with very fair skin, I go through a lot of sunscreen year round.

  2. We just moved to New York City in July, and I absolutely love going for walks along the Hudson River. The breeze is cool, the walking path is clean and smooth and surrounded by greenery, and our puppy loves it too.

    Hi,
I’d love the chance to try the Badger Sunscreen, however I don’t have a twitter account to share it. I’ll pin on pinterest and like on facebook. We have 15 grandkids and I hate putting store bought products on them when they come to visit for the summer. I’ve attempted making my own, but I’m still in the tweaking stage with that,
    Thanks for the chance.
