A TON of Ideas for that Memorial Day Picnic!

memdaycollage

One thing I love is options. Another thing I love is reading blogs and scouring Pinterest! Put all of these together around an outdoor holiday and you have a bunch of ideas for a BBQ. I have been collecting ideas for Memorial Day (and 4th of July and Labor Day) for a while now and I thought I would share a few of my favorites. Often times it is a weekend filled with lots of parties and BBQ’s. This year we will be headed to my parents house on Sunday to celebrate my dad’s birthday BBQ style so I plan on trying a few of these there and on Monday we will be having a nice calm, relaxing day at home, which in our house generally means creating new recipes and enjoying some great snacks. We love doing meals with all appetizers or “picky foods” as we call them!

Veggies:

I love a good veggie tray and with the amount of fresh veggies we are getting from the CSA, there are plenty to share and go around. I can’t wait until cherry tomato season! We have a bunch of french breakfast radishes and so pair that with some baby carrots, snap peas, and broccoli and all you need is a good dip. Here are some I have been dying to try:

We are fans of French Onion Dip, so making it homemade sounds wonderful (to me)! Here is a recipe from A Bitchin’ Kitchen! Looks super easy but totally worth it!

I love all things greek and all things garlic, so this Garlic Greek Ranch Dip is 1st on my list of dips to try for fresh veggies this year…DELICIOUS!

Appetizers:

I have been getting loads of fresh basil and can barely keep up with picking it all before it flowers so I am thinking it would be perfect to use in an appetizer. I am hoping to try these Chicken and Brie Pockets but with adding basil and maybe some fresh tomato in them. YUM!

I may have to try some of these apps too this weekend, maybe bringing one to my parent’s house to share!

Strawberry and Goat Cheese Bruschetta – Can’t.wait.for.strawberry.picking.season!

My mom makes these fantastic fresh asparagus spears with an Sweet Honey Soy Sauce…So simple yet absolutely delicious.

Of course there is always the classic Artichoke Dip. This one from Barb at A Life in Balance sounds particularly delicious.

Side Dishes:

When I think about side dishes for BBQs I start to think that I have a problem. I could eat them ALL. I LOVE side dishes, probably way too much. From beans to potatoes to salad, I love love love them all! How about these?

A nice cool refreshing salad twist, Cucumber Feta Salad. YUM!

Or how about some Southern Baked Beans like these from Deep South Dish? Honestly is a barbeque ever complete without them?

These Homemade Potato Chips from Spontaneous Hausfrau would look awesome arranged on a table with a homemade dip

Entrees:

So, we all know that burgers and dogs are definitely on the menu this weekend! Why not change it up a bit and grill these Black Bean Mushroom Burgers for a nice healthy twist? They are SO easy! My mom also makes a great Buffalo Chicken Burger. Hmmm, maybe I can get her to share the recipe with us! I also love these ideas too…

How about mixing it up and going for one of these Grilled Pizzas from Confessions of the Stay at Home Mom? I have been dying to try these…even bought the dough. I think it would be fun to make a whole bunch of different pizzas and share them all!

Or for another burger, what about this Turkey Burger with Feta and Herbs…another way to use all of that mint I have!

Refreshments:

I love following my friend Linda’s blog: Giggles Gobbles and Gulps! She is a fantastic creator of fabulous refreshments! Check out this Strawberry Kiwi Granita Shooter. Seriously can it get any better?

And here’s another one…Rhubarb Iced Tea…um, yes please!

Desserts:

We got some fresh rhubarb in our CSA box this week, so all I can think about is Strawberry Rhubarb Crumble! YUM! This weekend is the weekend for the individual mason jars filled with it for sure. Here is the perfect recipe from Caramel Potatoes.

Popsicles are always a nice treat and they are easy to make yourself by freezing your smoothies.

Now that I am drooling all over my laptop, I can’t wait to kick off the first big BBQ weekend of the summer! Bring out the white shoes and open the pool because hot summer days here we come!

What is on your menu for the weekend?

Motivation Monday is taking an “early turn” this week for a fun, Memorial Day Round-Up! Link up your posts about Memorial Day (or Summer Barbeques) old or new anytime between now and next Wednesday! I can’t wait to get lots of ideas for celebrating summer:)
